The Polo Report
By Steve Crowder

The Piaget Polo Team, with Melisia Ganzi leading the charge,  were too much for Marc Ganzi and the Audi team in the finals of the 20-goal Ylvisaker Cup at International Polo Club .  The polo game was aired was live on Pololine.tv and the picture was so, so,  but fun to watch anyway.  It was a close game most of the way and as a proud Papa,  I thought it was great as Jason led the main group through the tough part with some outstanding plays which helped him win MVP as well as Best Playing Pony with his hardworking Man Omar on the rope. Miguel, as usual, was the man who controlled the tempo, but he fed it often to Jason and they made some huge plays to set up goals.  Juan was the Secretary of Defense when he had to be and some great runs by Ms. Ganzi came out big in a 1 goal game without a doubt.

It was a great day for Piaget.   To get to the finals was tough enough with 16 teams in the tournament, but to have to beat Audi in the finals had to be very nice. Congratulations to Melissia Ganzi, Jason Crowder, Miguel Astrada (the leader) and Mr. Defnse …  Juan Boleni.

Another west coast winner of the day in Florida was Santi Torres, who won the Sawgrass 12-goal league and who also was picked as MVP and Best Playing Pony in his finals. Santi  was also on the Luchesse team who lost to Piaget in the semis of the Ylvisaker. The man this tournament is named after is 100 % the reason Palm Beach is basically the Capital of the Polo World. Back in the mid 70’s, Bill Ylvisaker had a vision to make it a polo mecca and he did just that.  He  opened the club in 1979 and carried it through the late 90’s. In 2002 after Bill retired and gave it up it was John Goodman who built the new club and just kept it rolling and growing it to become what it is today, a polo haven for the winter months.
Alex Webb will have the game report soon on PoloZONE.com where you get the news about of the King of Sports.
