The 10-Goal Chris Hoyman Memorial Final came down to Madison/Atlant and TriTech. Two teams that have faced off on field one in San Diego many times over the years. This time TriTech took home the bronzes, although you wouldn’t have known by watching the first chukker. Madison/Atlant (Bolko Kissling, Danny Rowlands, Tomas Obregon, Lisa Bosstick) scored the first three goals one each from Obregon, Rowlands and Bosstick. Chris Maloney, Carlitos Galindo, Gaston VonWernich and Ron Bonaguidi made up the TriTech squad which came to life in the second. Von Wernich scored three and Galindo got one which gave them a one goal lead that they would still have at half time. The second half was all triTech, Galindo and Bonaguidi each scored twice while VonWernich rallied for three. For Madison/Atlant, Obregon scored twice and Rowlands once, making the final score 14-9 with TriTech winning this final.
The 4-Goal Chris Hoyman Memorial Final was a hard-fought game between 6 evenly matched teams. Playing for the bronzes on Sunday were Jaybird (Jay Thronton, Manuel Rodriguez, Daniel Fernandez and Joy Bancroft) against Hanalei Bay (Krista Bonaguidi, Dirk Wray, Santos Arriola, Nicolai Galindo).
The first half was a defensive battle. Only Wray scored for Hanalei Bay while Fernandez scored the only two for Jaybird. In the third chukker Arriola scored one for Hanalei Bay, Rodriguez scored one for Jaybird and Fernandez got hot scoring three in a row including one early in the fourth giving Jaybird a commanding lead of 6-2. Just when it appeared to be over, Hanalei Ba scored three in a row, one by Arriola and two by Wray to get within one with almost two minutes remaining. A tough defense by Joy Bancroft stopped Hanalei Bay making the final score 6-5 with Jaybird taking home the bronze.
