The Polo Report

Common sense is something rarely used by our Government and not used extensively in our day to day lives anymore. Maybe it is because the word “common” makes people think they are above it …not sure. The Dictionary says it is “plain ordinary good judgment; sound practical sense” I did read recently that the size of the human brain is shrinking and I am sure a lot of that is because we use technology to do many simple things from adding numbers, fixing spelling to remembering a phone number. You do not even need to remember how you got somewhere, all you have to do is turn on GPS to find your way.
I live in California and this is something I thought about just recently when I was in Colorado last week. I had read somewhere that there is anew 4-year old Correction Facility in CO that was closed because there not enough criminals to fill it. Here in CA we have criminals doubled and tripled in cells and it cost us supposedly about 300 grand per inmate per year no wonder we are broke. Why not rent this one from CO and send a herd of them there or pay them to board them. It would make too much sense I am sure. We need to build a mega million more spaces and help the politicians improve their standings.
Here are a couple more ideas …
Legalize Marijuana so it can be taxed. This new tax would pay for a lot of Police, Firemen and School teachers and take out all the prisoners who are in for Marijuana and let them out and maybe a few other petty things and make them an offer. Give them 25 grand to get started on a better life with conditions that in one year if they are good or clean they get another 25 grand. We could save a couple 100 grand and make room for the real bad guys. I know the Politicians and big corporations that run the prisons will not like this idea and of course the drug dealers will scream that it is unfair, but State Forrest and Govt. land would be a lot cleaner if they just farmed it at home or in the field. It should save a billion or two a year.
I also saw in the paper where some of our Congress wants to cut back retirement funds on Police and teachers and others, but nowhere did I see where they cut back the politicians gravy train. After two years they get a free lifestyle beyond most CEO’s in the world. Like Nancy’s million dollar travel budget from SF to DC. It would also cut a big hole in cost of border agents between here and Mexico if we just grew our own and created a whole bunch of jobs.
Enough about Politics on to Polo. It is finally over in Florida for a while as the Grand Champions League finished last weekend. San Diego is getting ready for Opening Day, so the Party starts soon, but not without a cloud as the field site is dealing with guess who? Politicians trying to survive.
New York is in form as Nacho Figueras brings the big one in soon at Governor’s Island. In the UK it is Queen’s Cup time and it has been a long time as Queen Elizabeth 2 Celebrates 60 years at the helm of the British Empire. Well done LADY. It looks a little like the finish in FLas Nero, Cambiaso, the Pieres Brothers and a sprinkle of Astrada’s head to the short go and another Pieres Pablito seems to be still flying under the radar as he is again blowing by most if not all.
Out in Santa Barbara where the 12 goal is on. It was Mansour and MVP Ben Soleimoni taking the Vic Graber Memorial home as they ran away then held on to escape the Colorado Cowgirl and her Cotterel Farm team. Down 7 to 1 early on the Red and white of CF fired up late and came blowing back, but just did not quite finish the deal.

Santi Torres has been in the hot seat most of the year so far, but got a lot hotter last Thursday as his Tack room and most of his tack caught fire at SB Polo Club. One barn was damaged and tack rooms destroyed. All Horses were safe so that is the great news. Well enjoy your week and go Play POLO.
