If you showed up at the Tortugas Country Club Sunday afternoon to watch Adolfo Cambiaso and his 40-goal La Dolfina team perform in their first match of the 2012 Tortugas Open, you weren’t disappointed. Cambiaso led all scoring with eleven goals as the La Dolfina machine rolled over a talented but outgunned Alegria contingent.
After a slow opening chukker that saw the score tied at 1-1, La Dolfina started working their magic. A pair of goals from Cambiaso and a single goal from Pablo Macdonough were answered by single goals from Agustin and Pite Merlos. La Dolfina was just starting to loosen up as they took the early 4-3 lead.
La Dolfina rang up three more goals in the third while holding Alegria to a pair, extending the lead to two goals, 7-5.
Cambiaso continued to dazzle the spectators with his magnificent stickwork as Alegria continued to have trouble stopping a 40-goal offense that wasn’t even warmed up yet. At the end of the fourth La Dolfina posted an 11-8 lead in a contest they controlled from the opening throw-in.
La Dolfina held Alegriato a pair of goals in the fifth chukker, but the three goals they put on the scoreboard stretched their lead to four goals, 14-10.
Two more La Dolfina goals in the sixth were answered by a single goal from Alegria as La Dolfina pressed the attack with no sense of urgency.
With La Dolfina playing the final chukker with their feet on the brakes, two more goals swelled their total to eighteen goals. Alegria (0-2) scored three times in the chukker, but it was never a contest. La Dolfina (1-0) rode off with the 18-14 victory and will next face La Aguada (1-0) on Sunday, October 7th.
