Roscoe (Jocelyn Grouix, Robin Sanchez, Hector Galindo and Kris Kampsen) scored an 8-7 win over ELG/Ruby Q (Brian Street, Diego Cossio, Sugar Erskine and Avery Chapman) in the finals of the Palm Restaurant Invitational Wednesday morning at the Palm City Polo Club in Boca Raton.
Both teams’ offenses were a bit tenuous in opening chukker play with neither team being able to break through for a score.
Second chukker activity had Avery Chapman and Sugar Erskine score goals from the field while Roscoe team captain Jocelyn Grouix scored on a penalty goal and teammate Kris Kampsen added a goal for the 2-2 tie.
Erskine put ELG up, 3-2, early in the third period, but roscoe fought. Hector Galindo scored his first goal of the game to make it all even, 3-3, to end the first half of play.
Roscoe broke it wide open in the fourth with Grouix scoring three goals. Kampsen added a goal for a 7-4 Roscoe lead. ELG garnered a single goal from Diego Cossio.
ELG got it back on track in the fifth period. Goals from Brian Street and Chapman went unanswered. ELG had cut the Roscoe lead to a single goal, 7-6.
Kampsen converted a penalty shot in the sixth chukker to move Roscoe in front, 8-6. Chapman scored a goal for ELG but that would be where it ended. Roscoe would hold on to win the 2012 Palm Restaurant Invitational, 8-7.
Grouix was named MVP and led all scoring on the day with four goals. Kampsen scored three times and Galindo added a goal in the win.
Chapman led the ELG team with three goals. Erskine scored twice, while making three brilliant goalmouth saves for the ELG defense. Cossio and Street each added a goal in a losing effort.
