GENE’S CLEANING TAKES GURKA’S CUP IN BUZZER BEATER
Gene Gass scored the second of his 2 goals in the closing seconds of the match to give his Gene’s Cleaning team the win in The Gurka’s Original Bar Rooms Cup at Saratoga Polo on Sunday, narrowly edging out the Saratoga team with a final score of 7-6.
In addition to Gass, the husband and wife team of Tab and Will Orthwein each put a pair of scores up for Gene’s Cleaning, including Will’s thrilling game-tier with less than a minute left in regulation. Lael Peters also had a crucial goal for the champions.
The runners-up were led offensively by Marcelo Castro with 4 goals and Matt Coppola with 2 and Saratoga’s Rick Baum was awarded the UBS MVP.
The Saratoga Saddlery Best Playing was awarded to Pitaca, Marcelo Castro’s mount in the fourth chukker.
