Cambiaso made a triumphant return to Spain’s Santa Maria Polo Club after a five year absence, leading his Dubai polo team (Martín Valent, Patricio Cieza, Luis Domecq and Adolfo Cambiaso) to a 12-9 win over Scapa (Michael Redding, Jack Richardson, Eduardo Novillo Astrada and Marcos De Paola) in the first of three 22-goal tournaments in the Spanish season.
Dubai took the field Friday afternoon with Luis Domecq filling in for Rashid Albwardy. After a 2-2 first chukker, Adolfo Cambiaso and company took control of the game.
Dubai rolled off three unanswered goals in the second chukker and led Scapa 7-3 at the end of the first half.
A determined Scapa team returned in the fourth chukker, outscoring Dubai for the first time all day, but only managing to cut the lead by a single goal, 8-5.
The two teams matched goals with one another in the fifth chukker, 10-7 and again in the sixth with Dubai recording the first high-goal tournament win of the season.
The 22-goal Silver Cup is slated to get underway on Sunday, August 4th with Royal Salute (playing HB.
