It was finals of the Oyster Cup at Cerro Pampa Polo Club located in Petaluma, CA just North of San Francisco. They had two major sponsors for the tournament: Grey Goose and Ferrari. It was like a party from Hollywood only done better. There were so many beautiful people. They also had a polo game, that’s what they were playing for and it was a good one. The local team, Freeman Polo, had run through their bracket of 3 teams as well as the Mc Polo/Winters team. The crowd favorite was Freeman Polo with patron Bill Freeman, but the insider-outsider group was here to play polo. The Lady of Santa Rosa Polo, Geri Dardi and local Cerro Pampa member, Matt Winters, wanted to play and they decided to go for it. They sent for the double J’s (Jason Crowder and Joseph Stuart) who have teamed up with Geri Dardi before and won. That’s the way it was, despite a lot of bias from the locals. Both teams won over close games to get to the finals and it was show time at sunset on the Cerra Pampa Polo grounds. The Club is located on a gorgeous location in the wine country.
The game started nearly on time at 6:10 pm. It was Matt flying out of the throw in headed to goal and bingo its 1 up for Mc Polo/Winters. Then the Palomino (Jason Crowder – 5 goals) got one following Matt Winters down the field on another big run. Then Wild Bill (Freeman) says hey dude that’s just not right and he took it down town and boom he scored one. They finish the chukker on another big play by Wild Bill to tie it up. In the 2nd things get fired up and Geri Dardi gets a big goal to put them up. Then Freeman Polo ties it back up. Jofie (Joseph Stuart) gets Mc Polo/Winters Team up at 1/2 time. Its 1 up for McPolo/Winters and the Palomino (Jason Crowder) adds one in the 3rd. There here comes wild Bill Freeman again on a wide-open run. Wild Bill closes the gap so Freeman Polo is down 1 and they tie it at the end of the 3rd. In the 4th, however, Jofie (Joseph Stuart) in his own way of saying “thanks for great time, but were taking the Cup Home” and he smoked 2 to finish it up and Mc Polo/Winters won the Big silver. MCPOLO/WINTERS are the 2006 OYSTER CUP CHAMPS, but hey it is not over, just the game. The Oyster Cup party is just getting started. Limo after Limo, Vans, Buses, they all just keep coming in. At the presentation you would have thought you were at the U.S. Open with all the cameras, announcers, flashes, trophies from Tiffany’s and a1000 people yelling and talking. This was a great polo party and guess what? It did not end until . . . well I have no idea. There was so much Grey Goose, tequila and excellent food including oysters, Asado BBQ and much more. It was all very good and very well done. If you need a place to go in early August and you feel strong and want to play polo or party call Cerro Pampa for a guaranteed GOOD TIME!
