Enigma (Jerome Wirth, Chris Mackenzie, Sapo Caset and Guillermo Willington) registered their second win in a row by slapping King Power (“Top” Srivaddhanaprabha, Pablo Llorente, Gonzalito Pieres and Marcos di Paola) with a 12-9 loss in the opening game of the day in the 2014 Cartier Queens Cup tournament.
King Power, making their Cartier Queens Cup debut, took an early 3-1 first chukker lead before falling behind 6-5 at the end of the first half. Guillermo Willington led the charge for Enigma as they tied the score at 6-6 at the end of the fifth, and remained all even at 8-8 after the fifth.
A last chukker rally had Enigma outscoring King Power 4-1 in the final seven minutes of play for a 12-9 victory and a 2-0 record. Guillermo Willington led all scorers with nine goals. King Power falls to 0-1 and will try to regain their focus on Monday when they meet HB Polo.
Sifani 10, HB Polo 9
In their opening match Sifani (Hilali Noordeen, Matias Torres Zavaleta, Nic Roldan and Juan Ambroggio) held their own against the defending Cartier Queens Cup champion, Zacara (Facundo Pieres, Lyndon Lea, Gonzalo Deltour and Matt Perry), battling to a 5-4 deficit after the first half of play. Zacara went on to outscore Sifani 10-2 in the final three chukkers for the 15-6 win. This time Sifani fell behind HB Polo (Ludovic Pailloncy, Ignacio Toccalino, Pite Merlos and Sebastien Pailloncy) in the early goings, trailing 3-1 after the first chukker and 4-3 after the second.
Sifani scored three unanswered goals in the third period, taking a 6-4 halftime advantage.
The two teams exchanged goals in the fourth chukker with Sifani retaining the two goal lead, 7-5.
The HB Polo defense stiffened in the fifth period, holding Sifani to a single goal while putting two goals on their side of the scoreboard. With one chukker left in regulation time, Sifani held on to a narrow 8-7 one goal lead.
HB Polo pressed the attack in the sixth chukker, scoring twice, but Sifani matched them goal for goal. When the final horn sounded it was Sifani who celebrated the10-9 win, leveling their record at 1-1. American 8-goaler Nic Roldan led the Sifani attack with seven goals on the day. The loss dropped the HB Polo record to 0-2.
