GENE’S CLEANING/DOS PERROS WIN PRESIDENT’S CUP – Gene’s Cleaning/Dos Perros narrowly defeated Buckeigh Farm to claim victory in the finals of the US Polo Assoication President’s Cup at Saratoga Polo this Sunday. The final score was 12-11.
The finals were incredibly close throughout, with each chukker ending with no more than a one-goal margin. The lead changed many times throughout the match, but Gene’s Cleaning finished on top when the final horn sounded.
Tony Vita led the tournament champions offensively with 6 goals and Rick Baum and Jube Baez scored 3 apiece.
The runners-up relied on Oliver Butterworth for the majority of their scoring. He finished the day with 6 and was supported by Osiris Tarques with 3 and Luis Galvan with 2.
The title of Best Playing Pony was awarded to Cielo, Rick Baum’s mount in the fifth chukker
The title in this Regional USA President’s Cup qualifies Gene’s Cleaning/Dos Perros for a national tournament in Palm Beach during their coming season.
The second match at Saratoga Polo on Sunday was the Whitney Cup, also the inaugural match of the 2006 Ylvisaker Cup. Results to follow shortly.
