HOUSTON POLO RACES INTO 78TH FALL SEASON
BEGINNING SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 10TH
Houston (July 13, 2006)- Houston’s 78th polo season will continue this fall on Sunday, Sept. 10 and gallop through Sunday, Nov. 12 with ten exciting weeks of thrilling matches, all to be played on championship Farish Field at the Houston Polo Club, Texas’ oldest polo club.
Houston’s original sports franchise will welcome polo fans and the return of the ponies with the USPA Governor’s Cup Series, which begins on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 5:30 p.m. and continues through on Sept. 17 with the USPA Governor’s Cup finals and Van Conover Memorial match at 5:30 p.m.
Following the opening series, the five-week-long Stanford High Goal Series begins on Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. with the David Yurman Cup. New to the line-up this fall, this match is sponsored by famed jeweler, David Yurman, and will feature some of the best players in the U.S. and the world.
The Stanford Texas Open Invitational Finals follow the David Yurman Cup, taking place on Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. This annual favorite is sponsored by Stanford Private Wealth Management, a full-service financial planning and investment management firm serving private investors, corporations, institutions and governments worldwide. On October 8, the ponies and teams make their way to the field at 5 p.m. for the opening match of The Stanford USPA Silver Cup which will honor The Carter Family, representing some of the founding members of Houston’s original polo and riding club in the 1920’s.
The following week, on Oct. 15, two matches will take place on championship Farish Field. 4 p.m. marks the time for the return of “A Royal Match,” a heated exhibition match between The United Kingdom and The United States of America. The match benefits the British Forces Foundation (BFF), whose goal is to promote the Armed Forces through charitable means and by supporting all serving personnel. After the exhibition match, the much anticipated Stanford USPA Silver Cup Finals, sponsored by Stanford Private Wealth Management, will take place. The Stanford Group USPA Silver Cup, which celebrates its 107th anniversary this fall season, is the oldest and most coveted polo trophy in the country.
The Stanford High Goal Series will conclude on Oct. 22 with the Bombardier Cup. In its 3rd year of supporting Houston’s original sports franchise, Bombardier Business Aircraft manufactures the Bombardier Learjet, Challenger, and Global business jets. The Texas Lone Star League series begins play on Sunday, Oct. 29, featuring the Brinker Cup at 4 p.m. The series trots along the following week with the 9th annual Window of Opportunity Cup, starting at 3 p.m. The match benefits The Window of Opportunity Foundation, which provides four-year college scholarships for at-risk students from the Houston Independent School District.
The ever popular all-ladies tournament and the conclusion of Houston’s 78th fall polo season features the 12th Annual Ladies Polo Invitational with matches played Nov. 11 – Nov. 12. The finals will be played at the Houston Polo Club on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 3 p.m. This tournament features some of the world’s finest female polo players and is a highly anticipated event.
