Jofie is Joesph Stuart and he had a very good day on an absolutely beautiful day for polo in San Diego. The fields were fast and the polo was a take off of next door . . . lets go to the races. It was a full day of polo from 10 AM until 5:30 PM. Some consolation games were played all morning. I think Prentice won, Ohana won and I am not sure of the others. The first finalswas at 1:30 PM it was show time for Jofie (Joseph Stuart) as he just had to follow the Older Lady in front of him. Her name is Jessica Bailey Mano. She took the big boys out on the other side and Jofie and the Bullet (Santi Torres) ran the show as Hidden Creek, with 2 substitute players, did a destroyer special on M+M (Marcus + Milichap). It was a very interesting game in many ways. It really is Sean Keys’ team, but he is in Oregon with a new baby and a Dear Mother who we all pray is getting better. His replacement is a 12 year old boy named Santi Torres who has another angle, his brother the Mig Miguel Torres, Jr. is the big stick on Marcus + Millichap. Miguel is 4 years older so its a family affair. Daniel Rowlands broke his collarbone a week ago, just as he qualified his team for the finals. Joseph Stuart was here in town, so in he goes to sub for Daniel R. and the results were a very long day for Billy Boy Hoyman and the M+M squad. Hidden Creek also had Carlos Galindo, Jr. and he had a very good game. Hidden Creek is the 2006 Rancho Valencia Cup Champions in the 6-goal.
Then the big sticks got started and it was Madison Square 2005 runner-ups for this same Cup. Joseph Stuart was on that team and now he is not, so he joined up with the Doctor (Gaston Von Wernich) and young gun Guti (Mariano Gutierrez) and Boss Man Silent Chris (Maloney). These teams met about 10 days ago and Madison Square won by 3, but it was not the finals and today it was payback. An outstanding performance by TriTech kept them nearly in the lead all day as they scored first on a goal by Joseph Stuart. They kept it close until a tie broken in the 5th, then it was all over as Madison never got much closer for more than a minute. It was a good game with some outstanding plays and a very good crowd, but it will be only the beginning as the next 3 weeks see 14 teams vie for the two titles of the 100th year of the Spreckels Cup. If you want a part of a team come to San Diego PC next Friday night (Sept 15th) and get a piece of your favorite team and a great meal to go with it ASADO-style. There is a party every Friday night at San Diego PC, so might as well be there. Everyone else is. Congratulations to the 2006 winners of the Rancho Valencia Cup.
