The Polo Report by Steve Crowder.
Are you ready to play POLO?
We hope so, because we need you wherever you may be. We want you to play POLO !! The World’s most exciting team sport must keep growing and we are here to help. We do not care if you go to Tampa, West Palm Beach, FL, Indio, CA or Boca Raton, FL or Phoenix, AZ. We are here to help you get on the field and to help you play POLO somewhere, somehow. We can help you almost anywhere you may be except we cannot pay for it. So there is one thing we cannot do.
Wherever you want to go we should be able to find a polo connection for you. Even if its far away in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina or the Southern coast of Mexico. Polo is growing almost everywhere and we need to be a part of it as America was a leader in the industry for many years. Now we are falling behind. We have a very good and serious leader in Jack Shelton. We can help by supporting him and help pass the “Good old boy” theory.
Polo is polo and we have seen it leap past us in many venues such as Europe and Argentina, much like Baseball and Basketball. We are being passed up why? Well I think its lack of respect for the rest of the World. We were passed long ago in sports such as tennis, hockey and polo. We have lost basketball and baseball recently, yet the U.S. is still the leader in golf solo, but not as a team. We have football and that’s about it. Maybe its because not to many people play it elsewhere.
On the other side of the coin we have a new sport popularity in soccer. The U.S. has 30 million kids playing soccer and we have to get foreigners with U.S. passports to play for us. Why? I feel like we do not take things as we could or should. If we play polo or any other sport we must be focused or we will only be so good. I am interested in polo and I want to see people make it better in the U.S. I am willing to help in anyway I can because I love polo. I think right now there is one man building polo in the USA and that is John Goodman. People like to say “well he is rich .” That may be true, but how many people in polo are rich? A lot of them and what are they doing to help grow polo? John Goodman cares about polo and he wants it to be a big sport. He wants polo to become a legitimate sport. A sport that will grow and pay its own way in he process. Goodman is doing it everywhere else, but especially in our area. The effort is coming from a few good men putting up the money for the rest to play. The people playing are whining all the time about cost, but also complaining about the control of others. Well a Lady Polo player told me a few weeks ago as I was bellyaching about old timers and their control in the polo industry. She said “why should they not they be in control, they are paying for it.” The lady was right, they are. So why not keep it the way they want it as no one else steps up to do the job. A perfect example is in Indio, CA at Eldorado Polo Club. The Club property is to be sold sometime soon and there has been very little effort to build a new Club. If the sale does not go through we may go from the biggest club to a very average club with no fields. Why? Nobody cares to improve the facilities and no one is stepping up to do it. Is not their problem, so I guess they will buy a boat and aggravate old owners for a better deal. I am asking for some ideas to build the sport of polo and to support American players and support playing American pros in American polo. So tell me your opinion anywhere you want. You can post it on the message board , email m, telephone me or send your comments and opinions by U.S. Mail. The important this is to just do it! See ya. Steve Crowder.
