The Polo Report by Steve Crowder – It was an exciting day of polo from South America to Indio, Ca. On the first weekend of the last month of the year, it was a December type of day in Indio and a nice day in Buenos Aires, Argentina from what I’ve heard. It all came down to the numbers this past weekend. Not what you did, but when you did it.
Down South in Argentina, the young guns of Ellerstina won, but they needed to win by 2 or a score above a certain number to get to the finals of the Argentine Open. They won the semi final game in overtime, so by winning by1 they put the old-timers from La Aquada in the finals, who did not even have to work today. Now La Aguada will play La Dolfina in the finals next Sat. afternoon.
Here at Eldorado, it was the older Ladies seldom shooting at goal and just defending and winning. It was a running game on a yellow polo field compliments of Jack Frost on Friday night. The Yuma Ladies could not put it between the post. With 16 shots at goal, only 2 entered. The Old Gals shot 3 times and made all 3 while the girls from Yuma ran and ran, but it was fun to watch. Darling Dana and a jumping Jocelyn Parker of San Diego flew down the field often with the high-powered Therese Volmer behind them. They needed a funnel to the goal, but it was a much faster game than the men’s games next door.
