With the mercury nearly 95 degrees today and a light breeze it went from the coldest winter to the hottest day of the year. It was quite toasty as well as dusty as water has not been a key ingredient here latley. They say the HITS Horse Show was very hot as well. I dropped by La Quinta Polo fields over the weekend and their fields were very green and looked like a polo field should look in the early spring . . . green and no dust coming from the field.
There was polo where there was dust and it was mostly early as the Colorado Cowgirl (Jenny Luttrell of Cotterel Farms) got back to work and started taking her man. And guess what? Cotterell Farms is winning again as they slid by Aspen Oaks missing Mr. Middleton I hear. The return of MRS. Ellen happenend as well today as she showed up with her Monteverde squad and blew by the Ambassador Glen Holden and Gehache. It was ParkLane out lasting Kentfield. Little Joe Anthony and Rancho Amistad slipped by Empire as Manny Questel beat Daddy Domingo and he was not invited home for dinner. Mr. V (Vladimir Rivkin) and his Double Eagle crew flew through Rancho Santa Fe/TruChoice on their way to victory lane. It was Mr. Smooth (Curt Hughes) doing just enough as he led Friendly Chevy past Playa Grande. We also have a full slate of 2-goal teams which should be banned. They say this is for learning, but I see no one learning anything except young Argy grooms practicing keep away. If 4-goal was used as a coaching league and no 2-goal leagues were organized we might have some teams to play 8-goal and 6-goal polo.
Here is the way it went . . . Orange County with the Pacius combo smoked Evergreen as Robin Pacius led the charge and Rick Pacius did the work. Menlo and Mr. Jax jumped on Gilroy and the ladies of Hanalei Bay 2. In another round robin it was World Gym smoking the Uretz’s by David Flowers and his Flower Farm. They both rode over JVR Saddles. At the end of this round robin it was Arlujo dropping Carmichael to the bottom of the pile. Today its a big one as Hanalei Bay 1 goes for the title as they meet Windsor /Grant’s at 2:30 in what should be a nice speedy game for all to see. Young “Nick the Stick #2” (Nick Morrison) is back in action for the Governor Pat Nesbitt, who has a wounded Knee from a downhill race in the rockies.
So come on out and do not forget the time change. We spring forward and it is Spring time. See ya.
