It took less than 40 days to go from freezing to the century mark at Eldorado Polo Club. It is flat a _ _ hot here now and it is tournament time. It passed 100 degrees yesterday at about 11 a.m. There is a definite need for water and it is needed by horses and humans and oh yes it would be nice if they could put some on the grass too. Maybe they could use the water truck and use it for an old fashioned remedy for dust control, but after 50 yrs. maybe there is another way I am not sure?
Polo continues on and there were some good games today. In a big surprise it was Silent Chris Maloney and a fired up Tri Tech beating up a tired Hanalei Bay by all accounts. Windsor Cap/Grant’s played at the same time so I was not able to watch Tritech win. I have heard different versions that Hanalei Bay was strong early and weak in the end. I am not sure. It was 5 to 5 in the 5th chukker and finished 11 to 7 so maybe its horses or just maybe the Doctor (Gaston Von Wernich) and Silent Chris just got down to doing their job. In any event, its a big win for the proud new owner of the ugliest car in North America! With a win on Sunday it could be Skins Time in a week. At the same time it was Windsor Cap/Grant’s Farm and “Nick the Stick 2” (Nick Morrison) rolling up a big win on the International field. Which did get watered after the game. Nothing like timing! It was a good, steady game and it was a young gun by the name of Nick Morrision who continues to improve like the other “Nick The Stick” down south who is 23 and going no where but up. Nick Morrison is a super sub now for the Governor (Pat Nesbitt) who is fighting a very sore knee.
In other action it was also “Nick the stick,” in a second league, grabbing Mrs. Ellen’s shirt and helping power Monteverde to the finals of the 4-goal. They were just a little more balanced and out rode Ore/Pac down the trail to victory. Casa Blanca kept themselves in the running for the Officer’s Cup as they were down only once in the last 3 games and are at 2 & 1. They need some outside help to get a cup. The Colorado Cowgirl (Jenny Luttrell) showed her value today as she worked hard and kept her boys in the game. Guti (Mariano Gutierrez) continued to push them to the limit on a very bouncy field and poorly refereed game. It was Miss Jenny’s Cotterell Farms getting a win by 1 over Playa Grande. Jesse and Shelley put up a good fight and even had the lead by 2 once in the 5th. Friendly Chevy’s is on a roll, as their leader Mr. Smooth (Curt Hughes) is out with a broken arm, but he sent Jr. (Lance Hughes) in to keep the ship on target. Curt is getting an elbow and a hand repaired for the up and coming 12-goal in Santa Barbara, so Lance is ready. He has Pop’s job for the weekend and its called winning . There are some very hungry hunters waiting for a mistep by Friendly Chevorlet.
Saturday brings a whole slew of action as some big games today are on the board. Little Joe Anthony and the Rancho Amistad Cowboys hook up with Melody Oaks for a chance of hanging their hats in the final. It should be a good one Gehache takes on Rapid Robert Kiger and the Zipper (Bill Ziering). Also at 10 and at high noon its Hoback Ranch and Bullet Bob Bradley taking on Eric Hammon and Kentfield in what will be a dandy I am sure. Also at noon its two teams with some surprising losses, but I think not completley dead yet. Mr. V (Vladimir Rivkin) is without his Special K Zhenya K.). Double Eagle take on Parklane who also were victims of Rancho Amistad and the ranch hands. At 2 pm its the Officer’s Cup. It is a must win for Dudley’s Casa Blanca or goodbye as they take on Friendly Chevy and Lance Hughes. Over at Empire its David Flowers and his Flowers Food Express trying to freeze out the Delta and Vanessa Jo in 100 + weather. So come on out and bring WATER and your SUNSCREEN. See ya.
