Steve Orthwein is ringing the bell again as players and teams are preparing for the Port Mayaca Polo Club’s annual Holiday Family Cup, December 27-30.
“We had a great turnout last year,” said Orthwein, “and we’re expecting a good number of teams and players again this year.”
Over 50 players participated in last year’s event with eight entries in the Low Goal
(8-goals) division while five teams ponied up for the 14-goal bracket.
“It’s a fun way to get together with friends and family during the holidays,” said Brandon Phillips, a finalist in last year’s 14-goal division.
Teams are required to field at least two family members, with each team being guaranteed at least three (3) games.
Lunches will be provided by the club each day with the trophies being presented on Tuesday, December 30. The Port Mayaca Polo Club is located in western Martin County (45 minutes north of Wellington) and encompasses 570 acres of stick and ball areas, exercise tracks, five championship fields, club barns and stabling for 128 horses and seventeen 20-acre private ranch sites.
Any parties interested in participating in the 2008 Holiday Family Cup should contact Laura Linfoot at the Port Mayaca Polo Club at portmayacapolo@gmail.com. The polo hotline is (772) 228-0115.
