The Polo Report

A great day for polo in the US and it starts with the East only because the Sun comes up there first. Read about the East Coast Open in Alex Webb’s report soon. It was a bit of a surprise. I am sure that AUDI was able to stop the monster of the East Peter B. from wining, that seldom happens. Peter does know how to win and seldom does not, but he did today. Marc Ganzi may be the next big dog on the East Coast as I hear they won in OT in the finals at Greenwich Polo Club.
Out west at Santa Barbara Polo Club it was a good game in the end. Dan Walker came to play and he did his job. He is the Patron of F&M and he did it all. He scored the first goal of the game, crashed and took out both goal posts (I’ve never seen that before), got back on his horse and played amazing. Dan also scored the last goal of the game as well to seal the deal. Farmers & Merchants bank … MASERATI SILVER CUP 2015 Champs.
The game was a bit of a guess what. F&M jumped on things early and totally controlled most of first half. Danny scored the first goal and crashed 37 seconds into the game to make it 4 to 1. Maserati did not score until the 2.20 minute of the third as with the handicap of 4 to MASERATI. It went chukkar 1, 4 to 2 chukkar 2, 6 to 4 and 1/2 time 5 to 9. Maserati came hard in the 4th, but were a bit wide. They tied it for the chukkar at 1 to 1 or 6 to 10. They really fired in the 5th to get to 9 to 12 and without a great goal by F&M at end of time would have been 2 goals. They won the 6th, but it was too little too late. They were still down by one when DW sealed the coffin with a big goal in the last minute.
It was a great game with a decent crowd. It was also a great day for Polo. The weather was fine on this holiday weekend. With 3 million people driving by, why do we not advertise and have a huge crowd? YOU HAVE IT ALL … weather, location, access, Drone footage,TV and players. It is simple … Patrons do not want to pay more, so lets make the club make money. I do not think it takes a genius and we have the people already here that can do it. IPC has it, Sotogrande has it Cowdary has it and it rains there, is cold and not too hot and they have it. DO WE?
