Although the celebration of Dubai’s win in the final of the Cartier Queens Cup has subsided and Dubai won’t be playing in the Gold Cup for the British Open, team mainstays Adolfo Cambiaso and Juan Martin Nero will be saddling up with Valiente. Playing with Bob Jornayvaz and Ralph Richardson on the Valiente team, they are scheduled to return to the field on Tuesday, June 21st to face the Cowdray Vikings (George Pearson, Chris Mackenzie, Jack Richardson and Alejandro Novillo Astrada) in a 4pm game on the opening day of the tournament.
The 2016 British Open has attracted a field of 13 teams that has been broken down into three brackets. Playing in Bracket A are Valiente, La Indiana, Britannia El Remanso, Murus Sanctus and the Cowdray Vikings. Bracket B consists of Zacara, Clarke & Green, La Bamba de Areco and Talandracas; while King Power foxes, RH Polo, Apes Hill and HB Polo fill out Bracket C.
Bracket A will compete within their bracket while Brackets B & C will compete in cross bracket competition.
The fact that both finalists in the recently completed Queens Cup (La Indiana and a slightly altered Dubai lineup that will play as Valiente) will introduce some early drama to the competition on June 27th while King Power Foxes will try to regroup to properly defend their 2015 British Open Championship.
New entrants include Murus Sanctus (Corinne Ricard, Manuel Elizalde, Facundo Sola and Alfredo Cappella), the Cowdray Vikings and Clarke & Green (Nick Clarke, Juan G. Zavaleta, Luke Tomlinson and John Paul Clarkin). Clarke & Green is a remake of the Sifani lineup with Nick Clarke replacing Sifani team captain Hilali Noordeen).
The Valiente -Cowdray Vikings match will be preceded by a 2pm game between Talandracas (Edouard Carmignac, Pablo Pieres, Tommy Beresford and Sapo Caset) and HB Polo Team (Ludovic Pailloncy, Ignacio Toccalino, Pelon Stirling and Sebastien Pailloncy). The tournament is being hosted by the Cowdray Park Polo club with a final scheduled to be played on Sunday, July 17th.
