The Polo Report
By Steve Crowder

Fred Mannix and his Algeria team are headed to the semis of the Argentine Open at Palermo. It is the biggest tournament on he planet. It will not be a cakewalk and even worse, they lost a very big stick with Sapo out, but survived the Quarters, so it is not over. Like Milo said “we have to see what happens.” On one side the big teams won Alegria and La Dolfina.  On the other it was the face of Polo Nacho Figuera’s team Cria Yata, a 30-goal team going thru with Ellerstina. I am not sure, like Milo, if this is good or bad. This is the best polo in the world and the way it was set up a qualifying team could sneak in and two did, which means both did.  It is a tough question for the best in the world is it exciting? Maybe, but is it the best polo? Maybe not. We all like upsets, but most of the time it kills the finals as a rule, is on well before it happens because one big gun gets through and the finals well they suck. This does not help  polo, tennis or football.  A weak finals is just that. And this is the best, which does not promote the games in any sport.  In this case hopefully the semis will be fun, but I doubt it.  At least not 1 game. I would guess Adolfo Cambiaso and boys will destroy Nacho’s boys. Alegria will need a miracle to down Ellerstina, but this could happen. They are still 35-goals without Sapo Casset. Where Cria is a 29-goal team taking on a 40… there will be no surprise. Anyway it was a test, but maybe not for the biggest of them all.

Around this neck of he woods it is decision time for some and too late for some who decided not to come to the desert. This is the place to be because it is simple … wherever you are, the weather in the desert is much better, no matter where you might be. The price is right and sunshine is always there as well as balloon trips, tram rides and parachuting.

Whatever you may have on your bucket list, you can find it in the desert. It does not have a lot of rain and it is not a boring place to be. It is fun, beautiful and economical.  Grab a car and drive where you can go feel the desert. Come on out and see for yourself.  If you are not impressed with Empire Polo or the Desert Polo you must be from Tulsa. That’s where I came from.  The first time and it was a lot less populated in 1987,  but so was Boca Raton.  I NEVER LEFT for very LONG, just for the summer.
