It was that kind of a week . . . Geese took out U Airline, the Cardinals smashed the Eagles and the Hawks destroyed Cotterell Farms. It was just a good week for birds. The big ones did not do as well as the little ones did, but it was the birds in front for the most part.
There was a lot of action in the second week of polo around the U.S. It is either very nice or very nasty. In Santa Barbara it was 80 today and so nice. In Indio the weather was very nice and warmer, in Florida the weather was just peachy. In Chicago it was 11 degrees F and it looked a little cool in Pittsburgh as well. There is sun on the Gold Coast.
Down South in Florida, it was Hector Galindo showing sharp teeth or what’s left of them. He led BTA to a big victory in the first high-goal Tournament of the Florida polo season. It was almost 10 years ago to the day when Hector Galindo and Jeff Blake did the same at the old West Palm Beach Polo Club. The only difference then Jeff Blake was rated 4 and Hector 8, but they still smoke it down the green grass.
It was a good day for old timers as Smoking Joe Henderson did a tap dance on the boys from Colorado and Argentina. Without their leader. The Colorado Cowgirl, Jenny Luttrell is still on the injured list and she had to be a spectator while her team played on field 1.
Over in Phoenix it was young Chris Collins joining Gary Haydon as they won the Cup in a shootout against a hard-riding New Mexico team. They got fired up watching those Cardinals take down the Eagles. I did hear it was Young Brad who missed his goal in the shootout, but Gary saved him. Then again, what is the boss supposed to do besides write the check . . . win is all.
Things could change next week when we get a new President and its probably safe to say no worse than the last one. As for Polo . . . only time will tell. The weather is good, so maybe things will change somehow. I am sure we all hope sooooooooooooo.
See ya.
