Adolfo Cambiaso takes field with Aiken’s future stars on Sunday September 24th
Pee Wee Polo match at the 2006 USPA Gold Cup feature game at New Bridge – part of Aiken Polo Festival
Aiken, SC – New Bridge’s star players Adolfo Cambiaso and Matias Magrini will take the field at New Bridge Polo and Country Club on Sunday September 24th – but instead of competing for league wins in the USPA Gold Cup Polo Championship presented by the Triple Crown of Polo, they will be lining up against each other with six young players from Aiken’s Pee Wee Polo program.
“This is a wonderful event to include in this Sunday’s program,” said co-chair of the Aiken Polo Festival, Sarah Eakin. “It is great that the top players – and the children’s idols – are taking the time to inspire these young stars of the future. It says a lot about the sport and the priorities of those involved in it.”
Among the youngsters enjoying the thrill of playing polo alongside Cambiaso – arguably the world’s greatest polo player – will be nine-year-old Wesley Bryan, whose parents Mark and Haley Bryan are not only Aiken residents, but also responsible for training some of the horses of the future. Another twist to the tale will be the appearance of 13-year-old Peyton Wigdahl, whose father David Wigdahl will be playing after him as Dahlwood takes on Goose Creek in the Sunday feature game.
With five teams in the tournament and every game crucial, polo followers expect Sunday’s encounter between Dahlwood and Goose Creek to be of vital importance in the final league standings. Aiken resident Julio Arellano stars for Dahlwood while Aiken’s nine goal player Adam Snow lines up for Goose Creek.
