LEXINGTON, KY, September 25th, 2006 — The University of Kentucky ushers in the brand new UK Polo Team. The new Club is hoping to engage all walks of life in the polo world and add to the surrounding horse community. The Club and its founding 8 members are looking to promote the sport of polo and provide hands-on experiences.
The new Club is proud and enthusiastic of the addition to the University, and wishes to enhance the equine programs at UK by elevating the opportunities and national interaction. The Club has established meeting times once a week and plans on beginning a lesson program directed by manager and coach, Jorge Vasquez. The Club plans to utilize the generous offer of the Bryan Station Farm grounds and will also be seen frequently at the Kentucky Horse Park. Lexington Polo Club has offered its guidance and support for the first year, which the Club greatly appreciates.
The founding members: Lindsey Hays, Sarah Goodwin, Devon Garone, Alex Thiele, Tannis Marley, Erin Finley, and Ross Guffy, represent all ages of the undergraduate body, in addition Jorge Vasquez, adult advisor, and are optimistic of the newly established Polo Club. The Club anticipates upcoming fund-raising events and the USPA National Intercollegiate Championships which we will welcome at the Kentucky Horse Park this year.
As a new program the Club looks to the community for support of any kind. We would like to send out an invitation to any UK undergraduate who is interested in the Club, as we welcome anyone who is interested regardless of ability. The Club is also planning on extending multiple efforts to collect and raise money for equipment such as tack and safety gear, horses and equine care, and uniforms. As a Club we encourage the community to participate in our learning experience and team and accept any charitable donations.
