It’s getting to be that time of the year to start thinking about those warm
polo months ahead. This year marks the 23rd season of the San Diego Polo
Club, and we invite you to come out for another great season of polo in
beautiful, sunny San Diego, California.
During these rough economic times, many players will be rethinking their
“recreational” strategy – including polo. To help keep polo at the top of
your priority list, we’re implementing several fee cuts and rule changes to
help make polo at SDPC more affordable this season. This year, we are
slashing the fees back to 2007 levels and extending the early payment
discount for stalls until you bring your horses in. We are also eliminating
the mandatory Sunday food ticket program that was previously required of all
playing members. Instead of the formal buffet lunch, we will be offering
lighter “bistro” fare from the food areas.
To help make putting together a team more affordable, we are lifting the
maximum goal level requirement for the 4 goal. This means higher rated pros
can now participate and more than one B-rated player can be on the same
team. Other rating restrictions will continue to be in effect for the other
levels.
The 2009 schedule will return to the old tried-and-true format that seems to
work so well in San Diego. Pre-season 6 chukker pro pool in May; 4 and 10
goal tournament play June through August; 6 and 12 goal in September; and
fall polo in October.
Come in for one week or four and the club will help pair you up with a pro
for low pressure, pre-season play. To limit your pre-season expenditures,
you can also pair up with another sponsor and split a pro. The arena polo
school opens on Tuesday, April 7, and the first arena tournament will be on
Memorial Day weekend.
The San Diego Polo Club offers playing membership levels that appeal to all
players–whether you are ready to take your first gallop down a grass field,
would like to play arena polo, or are looking to put in your own team. We
offer 0-2 goal open coaching chukkers once a month as well as club chukkers
three days a week. Take advantage of our early discount on your playing fees
if they are paid on or before February 25tt.
The San Diego Polo Club also offers an array of sponsorship and advertising
opportunities such as a tournament or weekend match sponsorship and
additional advertising such as a billboard, sideboard, or advertisement in
the club program. If you or your company is interested in sponsoring an
event or advertising in our program this year, please give us a call to
discuss the many sponsorship opportunities available. We will be happy to
work with you to tailor a program to fit your personal and corporate needs.
If you are thinking of visiting San Diego from out of town this year and
want to play some polo during your visit, let us put together a visiting
player package that includes tournament participation. The club has close
ties with the best resorts in San Diego such as Rancho Valencia Resort or La
Valencia Hotel, and we can help arrange accommodations for you and your
family. Our USPA open tournaments in August and September offer a fantastic
opportunity to experience great polo, perfect weather, and a chance to
partake in the many family (and grown-up) attractions in San Diego. Please
call the office at 858-481-9217 to learn more about these packages.
We have a packed social calendar this year with great parties and other fun
activities that our club is known for. Whatever your level be it the 4 goal,
club chukkers, stick and ball, or high goal–we look forward to seeing you
all on the fields, in the Tiki Bar, and for a casual lunch with a
spectacular view and great polo on Sundays. Come for a tournament, a month,
or the whole season! San Diego is a great vacation get-away.
Please see the attached playing and fee schedules.
