Indio, CA (February 4, 2008) – If the results of a polo game were measured in the first three minutes of the very first chukker, then Ron Bonaguidi’s Hanalei Bay foursome would be the Eldorado Polo Club’s January 4 goal champions. But, as most know, that is not the case and games are played to the end of regulation time. As a result, Robin Paicius’s Trinity 4 polo team is, in fact, the 4 goal champ of Eldorado’s January.
Getting off to a horrible start, under a relentless attack by the surfers, Paicius and her crew were down by three and in foul trouble in the very early going. The combination of Carlitos Galindo’s play from the field and pin-point foul shooting from Doug Blumenthal gave the impression that the Bonaguidis (Ron and wife Krista) would cruise to the podium.
It was not to be however, and Trinity recovered (it was Sunday after all) and were able to get a pair and go to the second down by only one.
The second went in Paicius’s favor and at the half the score was 4 – 4. Splitting a pair each in the third meant going to the final period tied at six.
Ashton Wolf put Trinity up by one early in the fourth but Blumenthal countered and the score was once again tied. With but 90 seconds on the clock, Juan Jose Gonzales put the Paicius bunch up by one and Wolf won the ensuing throw-in and scored the final goal to give the Paicius bunch the victory by a score of 9 – 7.
For the winners, Wolf had five goals (1 foul) and Gonzales scored four.
Blumenthal notched six for the runners-up (5 fouls – 3 of which were 4’s) and Galindo contibuted one.
