Friday in Santa Barbara it was a nice, cool June morning about 7 a.m and then about 8 a.m. it started raining. No one noticed much, just a heavy dew and then it became water and more water and then it became mud . It did rain on the Gold coast and caused trouble for Polo on Saturday, so away they went to the Mountain Kingdom of Tom Barracks called Piocho Ranch. The trouble was, only one team had trailers, so they played the home team and might have wished their trailers were broken as they were no match for Piocho Saturday. La Kirina suffered their worst defeat of the spring -summer season as the Lawman (Matt Ladin) and the Cowboys were fired up at home. One game was postponed until Thursday and the weekend went on. Sunday was a balmy south Florida day in Santa Barbara and it was a great day for polo. Will Rodgers came up to play inter-club and again thrashed Santa Barbara and gave them one of their better players to use against them and still buried them. Andrew Bossom and Leigh B. joined Domingo Questel in a thumping on the locals, who had Bolko Kissling this time. Then it was off to the 1 PM as Long Beach had a long day with Piocho and came out in 2nd place. Piocho Ranch goes to 2 and 0 and Long Beach 0 and 1. For the main affair it was Antelope/Windsor and La Kirina. Antelope jumped all over them in the first 3 to lead by 5 at the recess. Then Santi, Paige and Co. woke up and it went 7 and 0 for La Kiriana before Antelope finally put one on the board to lose by 1. The weather never changed, just the game .
Over in the UK it was a young South African leading his team Sumaya to the semi-finals of the Queen’s Cup where they will face a very tough group of Brits plus one Argy named Juan Gris Zavaletta who played for Fish Creek in Indio. Not long ago and that name has been part of the local seen for well 20 years . So their will be a majority of Gringos in this final for the first time in well a long time like 5 of 8 . That spells well for the rest of the year so we shall see. Good luck APES HILL that really is their name .
Apes Hill vs. Lechuza Caracas and Sumaya vs. Dubai in Wednesday’s semi-final.next Wednesday at Guards Polo Club.
Be there Thursday, it should be fun.
