Joe Barry Memorial Cup Semifinals Set for Thursday
at International Polo Club Palm Beach

WELLINGTON, FL (January 24, 2007) – New Bridge La Dolfina puts its 14-game winning streak on the line against Patagones in a 22-goal Joe Barry Memorial Cup semifinal Thursday at 1 p.m. at International Polo Club Palm Beach.

Division I champion New Bridge La Dolfina, led by superstar 10-goaler Adolfo Cambiaso, is 15-1 over the last two seasons at International Polo Club. Cambiaso, generally regarded as the best player in the world, leads the team with 17 goals while 9-goaler Matias Magrini has 16 goals. Patagones (1-1) is led by 7-goaler Michel Dorignac with 12 goals.

Division II champion Audi plays Pony Express in the second semifinal at 3 p.m. Nine-goaler Gonzalito Pieres leads Audi (2-0) with 11 goals and 7-goaler Fred Mannix Jr. has 10 goals. Mannix Jr. replaced Juan Bollini, who injured a knee in a practice prior to the tournament. Audi has scored just two of their 29 goals by penalty shots.

Pony Express advanced to the semifinals with a 12-11 victory over Skeeterville, finishing second in Division I. Tomas Goti scored a game-high seven goals and leads the tournament in scoring with 20 goals.

The final is Sunday at 3 p.m. on Stanford Field at International Polo Club.
The Joe Barry Memorial Cup is named after American polo legend Joe Barry, who died on May 18, 2002 at the age of 58. Born and raised in Texas, he achieved a 9-goal rating and dominated polo in the United States in the 1960s and 1970s. Barry won six U.S. Open championships, three Gold Cups, three Silver Cups as well as the Coronation and Camacho Cup trophies. One of the greatest No. 4s in polo history, Joe Barry was elected to the Polo Hall of Fame in 1999.

The polo matches are open to the public. General admission for the Sunday games at International Polo Club Palm Beach is $10 for adults. Children under 12 enter for free. Tickets may be purchased in advance and they are also available at the gate on the day of the game.
