It was an absolutely perfect day for Polo in Del Mar, CA. It’s never hard to expect a good time at party town and the San Diego Polo Club. Sunday was the same, but the weather was perfect for polo at about 80F with a slight breeze blowing off of the Pacfic. It just made it heaven on Earth. The polo was exciting as some upsets and some planned victories of course, we always plan on that. In the early match Sweet lady Tracee of La Pasion had a very unhappy day with lots of passion. She lost her first game and was not very pleased I am sure. The other 4 opponents were very happy as Princeps and Mrs. Wray had their way with the champs.
A blast from the past hit town as well in the form of Eric Oppenhimer, a founding member of the SDPC. He returned after being gone for a long time and brought a wild man with him. Of course he is related and is just like Pop. He rides good horses, goes fast and scares the hell out of Mom. He goes by the name of Ben and his team is called Rancho Deluxe. They won well over San Fernando and now stand at 2 and 0. They seem to be headed to the finals.
Eric, that’s Ben’s Dad, was one of the famous Oppenhimer’s of Kansas City. I met him when he came west to play with us in Santa Barbara. I had been told he was one of a kind and he was. When Eric got out of his blue 454 and more cans hit the dirt than feet. They were labeled Coors. He had a beard then and I never knew how old he was. I never forget when Joey Casey said “Do not worry. Just give him a job and it will be done.” From then on we just gave him a man, always the best player on the other team, and I am not sure if we ever lost. When he left town it was Coors and silver that went with him. That was Eric . . . here to do his job and ride the fast ones. He will get to see it himself soon because his son Ben has Speed on his mind and faster horses.
In the feature it was the return of Nourdean. He had a smile on his face and the goal on his mind. He knew the ball would come with Jofie (Joseph Stuart) and the Fass-etta (Mariano Fassetta) behind him. And it did. They sent it and he stamped it through the goal. They got a big win over Star Meadows/Jaybird minus their star Mrs. Joy, who is a little sore after losing an argument with a goal post.
Action returns Friday, so be ready to rock. If your going to San Diego PC, it is time for the Tiki party and Kelly knows how to make a party happen!
See ya @ SDPC call 858 481 9217 and get a place because its the place to be.
