Across the pond in the biggest polo tournament of them all it called the British Open or the Gold Cup. This is the biggest tournament with the largest turnout in the World. This year, in 2009, there are about 18 teams ranked an average of 22 goals. The same people playing in this tournament were also involved in the finals of the Argentine Open at 4- goals, the U.S. Open at 26-goals and now the British Open at 22-goals. One of the participating teams even won the last 20-goal in the Pacfic Open right here in Santa Barbara, CA.
He is in my mind and he in my opinion is the second best player in the World right now. I know that comment will draw comments. He he has little flash but lots of dash just like Pappa and he seldom loses. His name is Gonzalo Pieres, Jr. and he plays with Facundo Pieres his 10-goal brother. The Pieres brothers are playing against the best player in the World right now, Adolfo Cambiaso (AC). He is the same person they have played in so many finals. AC maybe older, but like their Father Gonzalo, he has become much wiser. It will be a long day come Sunday and it will be fun as Dubai with the Master and 3 very hard-working players vs. the Young Guns including the Pieres brothers and two able bodies all looking for the biggest prize in Polo this summer and maybe the year.
Out here in the west where we wait for the UK to finish, we have a couple of teams in action as Audi and Mansour go at it for a weekend. Down in party town in Del Mar, home of the San Diego Polo, it is the last big weekend before the break and its finals time if they survive Kelly’s Party Fri. night. At Cerra Pampa it is blowing and going as well. It is polo’s magic in the Rockies at Calgary. Polo is not far away wherever you are so head that way for the Worlds fastest team sport you will have a GOOD TIME.
See ya.
