Grant’s Farm Manor/Windsor Capital stays on top in 16 Goal as Hanalei Bay stays close on Sunday at Eldorado.
INDIO, CA (Feb 11, 2007) – By virtue of their 9 – 6 victory over Palm Desert on Sunday, Grant’s Farm Manor/Windsor Capital remain undefeated and on top of the standings after round one in the February 16 Goal League in Indio. In a game that remained close through four chukkars with five goals each, the combination of Mariano Fassetta and Jason Crowder with perfect play reading by Andy Busch playing back, was simply too much for Palm Desert and the last two periods belonged to the victors. The loss drops Dan Horn’s foursome to 2 – 2, a pair of games back, and a difficult task ahead if they are to win the Feb. tournament.
In the second game of the day, a win over Long Beach was neccessary to enable Hanalei Bay to remain close to the lead and a chance for the title. Long Beach, thinking otherwise, came out flying at the start and took a four goal lead part-way through the second, but led by only one at the half. Going to the sixth and tied at eight it looked as if the Walkers (Henry and Matthew) could finally get to the win column. Despite a six goal effort (2 fouls) by Diego Cavanagh it was not to be, and Hanalei Bay prevailed 11 – 8 and in doing so remain just one game back of the league lead. Federico von Wernich scored six times (2 fouls) for the winners and Agustin Zavaleta had five (2 fouls).
Round two will start on Friday, February 16, 2007. Best record after each team has played each other team twice will be the winner – no final.
