The Polo Report
by Steve Crowder

It was a perfectly awful day, but it was not hot, so that was not a problem. A good crowd attended the finals of the America’s Cup. It was in full dress man or woman as it may have been in the mid 50’s throughout the game, but the polo was hot and so was Kris Kampsen. Later named the MVP, Kampsen was the MVP from the start. He constantly challenged Mighty Mike and Lucchese with his attack and came out in front often. Kampsen did have great support from both Louis Escobar and Bolleni and a bit from Mark Ganzi, who was held under control 90% of the game by Muse, the opposite Patron. Mark’s first real ball hit came in the third chukkar as Muse did a very good job on him. I was already wrong on the teams with the chance to get to the finals and I was sure wrong on the match-ups between players. Muse controlled Mark Ganzi, KK (Kris Kampsen) dominated Andres. Julio and Bolleni were about even. Louis did a very solid match with mighty Mike, so the difference was KK. They rode to the Championship by several points.

Other than bad weather it was a great day. No one had a sunburn, the crowd was vocal and Ellen continues to do a stellar job on the social side. A week from today the Pacific Coast Open starts and it should be a great polo tournament as no one seems to dominate. Patagones and Audi both have a title, but I do not see either repeating this year as Audi did last year. So buckle up. This will be a darn tough tournament from Sunday on and there will be plenty of close games. As for this moment of glory it goes to:

AMERICA’s CUP CHAMPIONS 2009

MARK GANZI
KRIS KAMPSEN
JUAN BOLENI
LUIS ESCOBAR

Well done Audi!

It was Grant’s Farm thumping Patagones in the consolation finals on a fresh field and running wild as Jeff Hall had his way As all this happens its show time and it is PCO from now on. The Calcutta was led by Audi and Grant’s Farm so you know where the money lays.

San Diego results to follow as they did play and rain seemed to be the word North and East, but we will let you know as soon as we know.

See ya.
