The Winter Polo Riding Academy of the Detroit Polo Club had Polo Training Foundation (PTF) instructor, Wilbur O’Ferrell, conducting several clinics for the University of Michigan Polo Team at their winter home. Although some dates had to be cancelled or moved (due to an extreme cold spell) everyone enjoyed the clinics and also the after polo fun festivities held at the historic Whitmore Lake Tavern. The UM team is progressing rapidly and will soon be challenging long established collegiate programs throughout the Midwest. Kat Heggen, UM team president, has assembled a very good varsity team and an outstanding young JV team. Peter Cumming is coaching and giving individual instruction weekly to the UM team members and has another nine potential players taking lessons at the Detroit Polo Club’s Winter Polo Riding Academy.

While in the area, O’Ferrell also conducted clinics for the UM cross state rival Michigan State University Polo Team (whose program has now been running for 5 years) and reported that their team & individual skills have improved dramatically.

The DPC Winter Polo Riding Academy will also be conducting two introductory clinics for 36 young riders (and a few parents) from the Hartland, MI 4 H Club on March 10-11.
