Polo, the oldest team sport in the world, originated in Persia as early as the 6th century B.C.,
and the modern game was introduced to the western world in the 1800s by British cavalry
stationed in India. The sport achieved popularity in Los Angeles and was played extensively
during Hollywood’s golden era, with over 30 clubs in the area during the 1930s. The rising cost
of real estate has caused most polo operations to move outside of the urban areas.

This is a one-of-a-kind and close-up opportunity to watch extraordinary athletes and horsesbattle it out for a polo championship – stadium seating over a sunken earth arena – when the horses come charging by, you’ll hear the thunder and feel the same adrenaline that coursed through the veins of our ancestors, years ago when watching Gladiators battling each other inthe glory days of ancient Rome!

“By hosting the 2009 USPA Arena Polo National Championship, we hope to spread awareness
of polo,” Fragodt said. “The game hasn’t been played at such an elite level in Los Angeles for
some time, but the sport still exists here at the California Polo Club. With matches played 4
days per week – It is absolutely an option for locals.”

DEFINITELY BE THERE Saturday, November 7th for all the action and fun of the USPA ArenaPolo National Championship!! The weather promises to be perfect, the dress is completelyjeans, boots and sweaters-casual, there will be food and drink and you’ll find out that polo istruly a great way to spend a day in Los Angeles.
