In the greatest loss of all time in Polo we have lost the # 1 man of the 1st family of polo as Sumerfield (Skeeter) Johnston was pronounced dead this evening after a horrible accident in a practice game yesterday he suffered numerous broken bones plus a serious head injury which took his life at the age of 52 . Skeeter was one of the premier Patrons in todays polo + a leader in the future of the sport he was chairman of the newly formed NAPL a league to build this sport into a real live sport seen everyday on numerous venues around the world . It was a huge shock to the polo world period we have accidents and loss of life in the lower echlons of polo but seldom in this level of polo are these things a concern where everyone is riding good horses and super players around them it just does not happen. Like Dale Earnhart losing his life in the super star venue of his sport this is a tragedy that goes beyond all . The question is now will the US Open come to a quick end or will we continue we do not know ? Its a huge thing to face in the polo world and we would like to send our greatest sympathy and prayers to the family of Skeeter and may the world hold you together in this trying time . Thanks Skeeter for making Polo the sport it is and may you rest in peace and look down on the world you made .
