The final of this prestigious 17-22 goal handicap tournament was played on Ground 1 at the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club – only a few miles from Guards Polo Club. The weather did not dampen spectators as thunder and lighting and heavy showers threatened to dampen the crowd’s enthusiasm.

At 3 pm the showers ceased and sunshine broke through the clouds as the two teams took to the field. Cadenza in white and blue against the Broncos in blue and yellow. Playing for Cadenza were Tony Pidgley (1) Tomas Fernandez-Llorente (7) John Paul Clarkin (8) and back Nicholas Espain (6). For the Broncos were Claire Milford-Haven (0), Santiago Legorde (4), Pablo Macdonough (9) and back Matias Macdonough (8).

Play commenced with the Broncos receiving a one goal handicap and aiming for their first win in this tournament. Play was first and furious with John Paul Clarkin playing exceptionally well and scores even. By the end of the sixth chukka it was 10-10. Into the seventh chukka and within minutes Tony Pidgley scored the golden goal for Cadenza to win the Prince of Wales Trophy.

The presentation of the Prince of Wales Trophy was presented to the Cadenza team by Greta Morrison, the wife of Brian Morrison, owner of the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club. The best player was Nicholas Espain of Cadenza and the best ‘retrained racehorse’ was Chigaco ridden by Matias Macdonough.
