It was a bit wild on Friday at San Diego Polo Club. You knew there would be action as Kelly Maloney turned 26 and her Ohana Team was up early in the 1 pm match. There was plenty of action as the story is Kelly smoked Juan Curbelo in a wild rideoff and the rest of her team took it hard from horses heads to polo balls in the face. Sounds like only Kelly was available for her party from the Ohana team. Santos took one to the face, but is said to be ok. Worst of all it was Big Ed Pope and Aspen Oaks making a big rally in the last 2 chukkers with some back to back to back magic and won their first round game in the 10-goal.
In game 2 it was a steady battle between Madison Square/Tritech and Phoenic/Casa Sombres as Bolko Kissling, Gary Haydon and Matt Ladin made their first appearance ’07. Clemente Zavaleta, the nephew of former star Julio Zavaleta, also had his first time out in San Diego. Like Pretty Lady Lisa Bosstick’s husband said “why did they not just bring one horse?” After 6 chukkers it was all tied up and when the Doctor (Gaston Von Wernich scored his 5th or 6th penalty shot and then won it on a safety in overtime. So after 42 minutes of polo it just took 3 minutes and 38 seconds to finish it, so Madison Square/TT and Aspen Oaks both go to 1 and 0. The oother 2 are at 0 and 1 . Gypsy waits to start on Sunday. Saturday is a full house as the 4-goal has 3 games from 10:00 AM through 2 PM so come on out and see those ponies run. See ya.
