Well, we have two of our semi-finalists determined, a third very strong possibility that Tuesday will confirm, as well as the fourth slot. Shekomeko Creek defeated Buena Vista today to take the number two position in Bracket II in a very exciting match that had more than its share of thrills and spills.

The most important aspect of the day was that we were able to share the celebration of Karen Klopp’s birth at field-side today. We are all so fortunate to have such a wonderful lady in our midst. Happy Birthday Karen !!!

Shekomeko Creek 12 Buena Vista 9

Chukkers 1 2 3 4 5 6 Totals

Shekomeko 2 2 1 3 3 1 12

Buena Vista 2 1 2 1 2 1 9

Shekomeko seemed to have a cloud of darkness on a beautiful sunny day in the early go of the game, as Shekomeko’s Guiil Aguero got his right thumb smashed by a powerful backhander off of Lisioli’s mallet and then Enrique Zavaleta had a nasty spill after one of his early scores. Enrique’s horse slipped and fell rather easily, but as Enrique tried to stand up, his horse toppled over him and kicked him in the head, knocking him back down to the ground. It was doubtful whether Enrique would even return, much less whether Guilli would be able top properly hold the mallet. They both managed to shake off their injuries and played on. Enrique had a really bad day/good day, as he was badly injured and then shared high scoring honors with BV’s Gaston Lisoli. They both had 8 goals. Enrique’s teammate Guilli had 4 goals which is nowhere close to the indicator of how much Guilli contributed to the winning effort. Enrique and Guilli worked very well together to help their teammates Mr P and Conor Mahony find their way to the semi-finals on Thursday. Buena Vista played hard but were only able to take two of the chukkers in the course of six. BV was right there in every chukker, but they found themselves a stride or two behind over the course of the game. As Don mentioned to me, how ironic that Don’s student of this past year, Mr P, moved past his teacher in his first showing of the Eddie Moore. I know Don was both disappointed and proud at the same time.

The second match up is what we expected.

Polo Do 9 Smithfield/Supersize 9

Chukkers 1 2 3 4 5 6 Totals

Polo Do 1 1 2 2 3 0 9

Smithfield/Supersize 3 3 1 1 0 1 9

Smithfield/Supersize came out full of steam as Polo Do slowly built up steam through their six chukkers of play. Smithfield/Supersize had a solid 7-4 lead at half, but were unable to hold off the relentless attacking strength of Matias, Raul, and Juan Martin, all who are masterfully directed by their maestro Michel Dorignac. All of the Smithfield/Supersize players contributed to the scores heet while Michel came away with six goals and the high score award. Raul and Matias both contributed a tally as well for Polo Do.

The teams decided to leave the contest undecided as the outcome would not affect bracket standings. Great polo by two good teams as both Polo Do and Smithfield/Supersize were sharpening their mallets for their next outings. Polo Do finishes first in Bracket II and will face off against whoever finishes second in Bracket I on Thursday in the semi-final. Smithfield/Supersize moves onto a round-robin finals of the Nueva Escocia Cup that will play this Friday at Mashomack. That game will be Smithfield/Supersize, Buena Vista, and whoever come in third in Bracket I.
So we need to wait until Tuesday to finalize Bracket I standings that will be determined by the Ramirez Financial vs Longfield Farm match at Ten Mile.

Upcoming USPA Eddie Moore and Nuevo Escocia

Tuesday at Ten Mile

Ramirez Financial vs Longfield Farm
If Ramirez Financial wins they are pretty much in the semi-finals with Longfield. If Longfield wins, then Heathcote goes to semi-final round along with Longfield. There is also the outside chance that RF and Heathcote could advance if RF beat LF by 7 goals, but that is not likely to happen….but what is that adage…never say never. So tuesday is a big one.

Wed..no polo

Thursday-Eddie Moore Cross-bracket semi-finals at Mashomack.
Friday-Nuevo Escocia Cup Finals at Mashomack at 4pm.
Saturday 6 goal Millbrook and Briarclifgf Finals finals/Possible EM Finals

Eddie Moore Win/Loss Bracket Standings

Heathcote Farm 1/1
Ramirez Financial 0/1

Bracket II
Polo Do 2/0 and a tie First Place Bracket II
Shekomeko Creek 2/1 second

Best two records in each bracket go to cross-bracket semifinals to be played this next Thursday, July 26. Second best record in Bracket II plays best record in Bracket I and vice-versa. The third and fourth place positions of both brackets will move to the round-robin finals of the Nuevo Escocia Cup.
