Wallerstein Polo Cup – Girls Only 2010 Polo Club

Wallerstein presents the second international “Girls Only” polo tournament from 18th – 20th of June 2010 at Wallerstein Castle

Wallerstein, 10th May 2010 – The Polo Club Wallerstein and its co-founder and initiator of the first “Girls Only” tournament last summer last year will be presenting this renowned Ladies polo tournament at Wallerstein Castle again this summer. The positive reaction of the 20 international players who arrived, hailing from Shanghai to Mexico, to participate in the tournament and of the sponsors was overwhelming. The Wallerstein Polo Cup – Girls Only was fully booked in April already, with six teams, even though the team handicap for the tournament was raised to between -2 and 0. Players from Australia, China, Thailand, Sweden, the UK, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Argentina accepted the invitation this year, bringing the number of nations participating in the tournament to 12, as summed up by Princess Anna zu Oettingen-Wallerstein, who is promoting Ladies polo in Germany.
The sponsors, Ruinart Champagner and Aston Martin Munich, extended their sponsorship following the favourable experiences in the previous year. Other team sponsors that came on board were the clothing company Falke, the La Mer cosmetics brand from the Este?e Lauder Group, the Dusit International luxury hotel chain and the St. Galler Kantonalbank. The official supplier for the six international teams will be Ona Polo.

“We are really looking forward to this tournament and would also like to familiarise the spectators in this region with this fascinating sport. Our emphasis is on the sport and the relaxed, informal atmosphere of English country polo. Admission is free, of course, and all spectators are invited to bring along their picnic baskets or to enjoy our delights in the hospitality tent”, says host Carl-Eugen Oettingen-Wallerstein.

The games start at 2 pm on Friday and Saturday and at 11 am on Sunday.

About polo in Wallerstein:

Wallerstein Castle has been the executive and ancestral seat of the Princely House of Oettingen- Wallerstein since the 17th century. The history of the Princes of Oettingen-Wallerstein goes back about 900 years and the family thus counts among the oldest high nobility still existing in Europe today. The House of Wallerstein has been intimately involved with equestrian sport ever since. Prince Eugen and later his son, Prince Carl-Friedrich, had a significant influence on horse racing in their roles as President of the International Club Baden-Baden (1958 – 1991). The Princess Mother, 90-year old Princess Delia, has been a passionate horse breeder to this day and, together with the legend of horse-racing, Hans-Gu?nter Winkler, is the driving force behind the renowned Scharlachrennen – CSI *** No?rdlingen. The Polo Club Wallerstein was founded end of 2006 by Princess Anna and her husband, Prince Carl-Eugen zu Oettingen-Wallerstein and a few close friends, when they took to this fascinating sport. They aimed to engender enthusiasm for polo sport in the region, especially among children and the young, through enjoyment of the game and the horses.
