On Sunday the Santa Barbara polo club hosted its first Club chukker tournament of the year. The tournament was called the Summerland Cup and it featured 3 teams and fifteen players. The tournament was formatted as a 1 day round robin, with the team that had the best record or highest net goals being crowned as the winner.

The first game was the Red team against the Green team. This game started out very close but as the game went on the green team proved their dominance winning by a significant 3 goals. Their victory was helped in a large part by the strong defensive efforts of Justin Klentner.

The second game pitted the White team against the Red team. Unfortunately for the Red team the only difference between the first game was that the second game didn’t even start out close. The White team dominated the whole game with great team work usually featuring either Patrick or Tony Uretz hitting the ball to Jeep or Glen III Holden, who would then take it to goal and score.

The last game turned out to be a final with the Green vs. the White in a winner take all match. This game started out the same way as the second with the White jumping out to a quick 3 goal lead in the first chukker. However the Green team was determined to not go down easy scoring 4 goals in the second making the score 5 to 4 in favor of White thanks to Tony Uretz’s two penalty four conversions at the end of the chukker. This was the perfect setup for a riveting last chukker however unfortunately for the Green team it was not meant to be as the White scored 2 goals to the Greens 0 in the last chukker winning by a considerable 3 goals 7-4.
