Aspen Oaks faced Gypsy/OC in the finals of the Gutierrez Cup 8-10 Goal Finals on Sunday August 26 at the San Diego Polo Club. Aspen Oaks Matias Obregon got off to a fast start as he scored the first two goals of the match, but Gypsy/OC answered back with one goal each from Shelley Geiler and Diego Cossio, and they also received one goal on handicap so the score after one chukker was 3-2 in their favor. Cossio scored early on in the second chukker but Aspen Oaks got two goals from Fernando Pliego to make the score even 4-4 after two chukkers. The third chukker belonged to Aspen Oaks as Obregon scored first followed by three straight from teammmate Juan Curbelo making it 8-4, finally Gypsy/OC got a goal from Cossio before the half making it 8-5 at the break. Gypsy/OC got off to a good start to the second half as Suzanne Figi and Mariano Gutierrez scored to bring them back to within one after four chukkers. In the fifth Aspen Oaks got two from Obregon and one from Curbelo, Gypsy/OC only got one goal from Cossio leaving them down three going to the last chukker. Aspen Oaks closed the door in the sixth as Ed Pope and Pliego scored making the lead five, Cossio scored for Gypsy/OC his fifth of the match, but Matias Obregon scored his sixth goal of the match leading Aspen Oaks to be the Gutierrez Cup 8-10 Goal Champions. The winners received beautiful bronzes sponsored and presented by the family of the late Fernando Gutierrez.
