With little fanfare, the 2009 Camacho Cup’s US and Mexican teams appeared on the website of The Villages Polo Club as a prelude to next month’s revival of the international Mexico vs. United States rivalry that hasn’t been played for since 1988.
The United States team will carry 29-goals to the field with them in the form of Kris Kampsen (6), Nick Roldan (8), Jeff Hall (8), and Tommy Biddle (7).
The team from Mexico will be represented by Camacho Cup veterans Carlos Gracida (8) and Memo Gracida (8); Memo’s son Julio Gracida (5) and Hector Galindo (7). Mexico the try to keep a winning streak intact that dates back to 1976, but will have their hands full.
The United States still maintains a 5-4 record in Camacho Cup play, but haven’t been able to defeat the boys from south of the border since 1975 in Juarez Mexico.
The important thing is that these trophies are in play once again, and players and spectators alike get an opportunity to see America’s best players take the field against top-flight international teams.
Looking forward to the Camacho Cup at The Villages Polo Club on March 13, 2009.
