Top American polo star Nic Roldan calls it an “extreme sport.”  Others call it the “sport of kings.”  FOX Sports Arizona calls it an opportunity to bring interesting new programming to its audience.

It is the Scottsdale Polo Championships: Horses & Horsepower taking place on Saturday, October 20th in Scottsdale.  The day will feature three of the best polo players in the country and pit The Hamptons vs. Bel Air, Harvard University vs. Work To Ride (as recently featured on 60 Minutes) and a morning match and brunch featuring the American and Colombian-born players of the Arizona Polo Club.

Watched on television in Argentina and by tens of thousands there in person, organizers of the Scottsdale event and FOX Sports Arizona believe it can be compelling new content here.

“Showcasing the Scottsdale Polo Championship marks another step in expanding our coverage of the Arizona sports scene,” said Brian Hogan, FOX Sports Arizona Senior Vice President & General Manager. “Arizona is home to many unique sporting events throughout the year and it’s only natural for FOX Sports Arizona to be the network to watch in order to learn more about them.”

“Spotlight: The Scottsdale Polo Championship” will air December 4 at 9 pm (after the Phoenix Suns/Memphis Grizzlies post-game show)

According to Hogan numerous “preview parties” will be filmed leading up to the event with extensive coverage that day. After the half-hour special is broadcast in early December, it will be made available to other FOX Sports Networks affiliates around the country.

While most of the action will focus on the intriguing polo matches and players themselves other segments will highlight the craftsmanship of the Championships’ trophies underway by Molina Fine Jewelers, the 2013 Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale for which this event serves as a sneak preview and aspects of Scottsdale which has long been known as a hot-sport for great sporting events like the Waste Management Phoenix Open and spring training.

Tickets are now on sale. That information as well as more about the event and the blue-chip partners involved can be found at www.thepoloparty.com.
