There is a Honky-Tonk bar in the high-end city of Solana Beach and it’s called The Belly Up. It is a very cool place to go as beer bottles do not fly there are no spitoons as in the real West, but its a down right nice place to go. It is a great place to listen to music. Old time rock & rollers come by from time to time. I hear the bandstand was humming as JW or Jim Williams and his band played there the other night (his nick name has always been “Speed” as his horses, cars, women and bikes always went fast). The women are under control. He has two now and they are the controls, but everything else is the same as it was in 1990’s . . FAST. The drums will be hoppin’. Well done James and good luck Alision. How far behind is James #2 on the guitar?
Back to polo . . . there is a showdown in Santa Barbara @ high noon. The Black Flags of Zacara take on the White Lights of Long Beach. It’s all set up to be a fast draw. Long Beach has U.S. Open MVP Jeff Blake taking on Javier Astrada. The last time they met JB was the boss, but this time the Black might have the edge as Lyndon Lea is on the front line with double barrel Jack (Ruki) on the run. It’s never known what Patron Dan Walker with his own speedos may do. If he is on the Black maybe he will be in back. It should be a dandy and this game does not guarantee a spot in the finals. If Zacara loses, it will be net goals. Jeff Hall is counting that as soon as this dust settles it will be another old rock Star Memo Gracida and Sir Tom Barrack challenging the Awesome Audi in what will be a very big upset if Piocho can beat them. The yellow cap has done it before as Audi is a 24-goal team in a 20-goal tournament led by the Master of the West, Gonzalo Pieres, Jr. It’s a bit weird, but 25 years ago I think Memo and Gonzalo’s father also Gonzalo were playing against each other in Deauville, France in the Silver Cup.
Back East it is White Birch with Gonzalo’s brother-in-law trying to beat Gonzalo’s brother Facundo in the finals of the Mercedes Cup. Now is that not interesting. Over in Soto Grande, Spain I do not think anybody’s named Pieres is playing today, but an Astrada is and he is the brother of Javier out in Santa Barbara. In San Diego Bryon Ward is playing like a rock star so its time for the stars to shine. SO GET OUT TO THE POLO GAME. See ya.
