The Polo Report
By Steve Crowder

Let it be known that the two places not so well known for polo are in the Grandaddy of them all here in the USA. One is from inside the U.S. (from Colorado).  Their team is Valiente led by big Bob Jornayvaz and a man named Cambiaso. Neither played too much, but they still won with two former desert stars Sapo Caset and Santi Torres.  They stopped the high-powered Victor Vargas and the Owls of Venezuela.  There will be some more desert rats in the finals of the big one.  Alegria, led by Big Macs youngest son, Julian Mannix, took out a 3-peat bid by Pieres and Laprida with a four pro team Crab Orchard.  He was helped along the way by Clemente Zavaleta and the big guns (the lighting fast Hilario Ulloa and Mariano Aguerre).  This team is based out of Calgary, Alberta Canada.  Alegria is from the same Club (Calgary Polo Club)  that had 3 teams in the League finals here in the desert.  Gordon Ross and Re/max rode away from Empire Polo Club with a big check.

It should be one exciting Easter as these two teams meet on that very day this Sunday. I have not heard if Mr .Polo (Adolfo Cambiaso) is going to be able to play or not.  Apparently had a jockey muscle issue early in yesterday’s game. You can read all about it in PoloZone.com under Alex Webb’s field side report.

There will be plenty of action as these two also met in the last finals with Big Bob taking home the title. Also another desert star got a big prize from the USPA ass. JESSE BRAY WON THE EQUUS & CO. award with a big fat check.

Other big news Westmont College and Mr. John Westley, the Coach of Santa Barbara,  conquered the world again in the Interscholastic Tournament.  They beat a very tough team and a favorite,, UVA of Virginia and Cornell in the semis.  This was Johns 9th trip, I think,  in the last 12 years and 4 finals and at least two national titles.  This year’s team was Tony and Patrick Uretz,  but the star on Saturday was David Saminego, who if you watched the video, was awesome.  Well done gentleman and Mr. John Westley.  Many thanks to ERG Patron Scott Woods for an awesome facility and arena to compete in. Everybody seemed to love it.
