Sunny Hale scored six goals in four chukkers to lead her Catena team to a 9-5 win over Michelob Ultra in the finals of the 3rd Annual USPA Sanctioned Women’s Championship Tournament (WCT) on the San Saba Polo Club fields in Wellington on Saturday, April 5th.
Action was fast but unproductive in the first chukker with Hale scoring on two penalty shots and Michelob Ultra being held scoreless for a 2-0 first chukker lead.
A goal from Dawn Jones made it 3-0 until Tiffany Busch and Nina Vestey Clarkin added single goals fro Michelob Ultra to make it 3-2. Another penalty conversion by Hale ended the half (four chukker matches) with Catena on top, 4-2.
Sherri Lynn Hensman opened he scoring in the third chukker with a goal, but Hale answered with another penalty conversion and a goal from the field. At the end of the third period Catena lead 6-3.
Another penalty goal from Hale was followed by two goals from Clarkin, but that was the end of the Michelob Ultra offense. Clarisa Echezarreta closed out the scoring with two goals for the 9-5 final score.
MICHELOB ULTRA 9, LOLO WAHINES 3
In semifinal play, Michelob Ultra downed the Lolo Wahines 9-3 with Tiffany Busch scoring a game high five goals. Sherri Lynn Hensman added four goals for the win.
A talented Lolo Wahines team was held to only four goals, with Jamaican 2-goaler Leslie Ann Fong Yee scoring three goals and Christie Waters Outhier adding a single goal in the second chukker. Alina Carta and Cecilia Cochran were held scoreless, as the Lolo Wahines couldn’t get any kind of rhythm going.
CATENA 13, LB SOGAS 5
Catena was running on all eight cylinders when it rode over a hastily put together LB Sogas team 13-5 in semifinal action.
Dawn Jones and Clarissa Echezarreta each scored five goals for Catena. Sunny Hale added two goals and Angela York scored once in the win.
LB Sogas received three goals by handicap but could only manage single goals from Nicole Offen and Kelly Torres in a losing effort.
Nano’s Polo Mallets Sinks Outback 8-6 in
WCT World Cup

Dawn Jones led all scoring with four goals as her Nano’s Polo Mallets team scored an 8-6 win over Outback in the WCT World Cup on Sunday, April 6 at the San Saba Polo Club in Wellington.
The Nano’s Polo Mallets team of Dawn Jones, Angela York, Sunny Hale and Clarissa Echezarreta was trailing the Outback team of Cecelia Cochran, Alina Carta, Kristy Outhier and Leslie Ann Fong Yee 2-1 after the first chukker. Leslie Ann Fong Yee scored for Outback, but two goals from Dawn Jones moved Nano’s Polo Mallets into a
3-3 tie at the half.
Jones charged into the third period to score the first two goals of the chukker for a 5-3 advantage. Alina Carta countered for Outback with a goal. Sunny Hale scored her second goal of the match to give Nano’s Polo Mallets a 6-4 lead.
Alina Carta scored her third goal of the game as did Leslie Ann Fong Yee, but two goals from Clarissa Echezarreta ended the game with Nano’s Polo Mallets taking the game with an 8-6 score.
