Calgary, Alberta (Aug. 16, 2007) – Game one of the 2007 Canadian Open is ‘ in the book’ and the word revenge will not appear anywhere – although it could. After losing the North American Cup by a goal to Millarville (on a penalty conversion) John Rooney and Tusk Energy most certainly must have had some feeling of vindication after defeating Fred H. Mannix and Co. by a 10 – 8 count in this one.
The start, however, wasn’t at all good for Tusk as Mannix took less than 20 seconds to score after the initial throw-in and led by two after the first. Getting back into things and trailing by one after two, the Oilers (led by Joe Henderson) shut out the North American champs in the third and led by a pair at the half (5 – 3) and never trailed after that.
For the winners, Henderson scored four times, Rooney contributed three (2 fouls), Jeff Hall had two, and Matt Sekera supplied one.
Mannix again led his team in scoring, this time with six (1 foul), while Daniel Roenisch and Brent Mirikitani scored once each.
Play in the Open continues on Saturday with Millarville facing Palmer Ranch. Tusk will ride against Scott Palmer’s Cowboys on Wednesday and the top two teams will play the final on Sunday August 26, 2007.
