Calgary, Alberta (Aug. 24, 2007) – The fact that the Canadian Open title was not to be theirs in 2007 didn’t stop Fred H. Mannix and his Millarville foursome from wanting another 12 goal title in Calgary. This time it was the J.C. Palmer Memorial as the Villagers defeated Tusk Energy by a score of 12 – 9.
Having to give John Rooney’s quartet a goal at the start, Millarville started slowly and trailed by one after both the first and second. However, the third was much different as Mannix and Daniel Roenisch combined for five unanswered goals to lead at the half 8 – 4 and never trailed after that. Roenisch scored three of the five and in that they were back to back to back he will receive a cowboy hat from Calgary Polo Club sponsor Smithbilt Hats. The acomplishment is known as a Smithbilt Hat Trick. It should be noted here that his third tally was made possible by a big defensive play by Julie Roenisch to allow her son access to the ball.
For the winners, Mannix scored nine times (3 fouls), and Roenisch supplied the hat trick.
Joe Henderson once again led Tusk with four, John Rooney notched a pair, and Todd Martineau and Matt Sekera supplied one each. A handicap award was given at the start.
Millarville (12) – Fred H.Mannix 7, Julian Mannix, Daniel Roenisch 5, Julie Roenisch.
Tusk Energy (12) – John Rooney 1, Joe Henderson 4, Matt Sekera 3, Todd Martineau 3.
