SARATOGA CLAIMS SARATOGA WATER CUP

Saratoga survived a late scare to narrowly scrape by Gene’s Cleaning to take The Saratoga Spring Water Cup at Saratoga Polo on Wednesday. The final score was 5-4.

A relatively low-scoring affair, the contest was marked by a lot of battling up and down the field by the playmakers from both squads’ backfield.

While Saratoga started the game up a goal on handicap, a ball didn’t go between the goal posts until the second chukker when Lael Peters opened things up for Saratoga, who held onto the lead. The winning team also got a score from Rick Baum and 2 from Marcelo Castro, including the final go-ahead goal in the fifth and penultimate chukker of play.

It was Will Orthwein who scored all of Gene’s Cleaning’s goals, including converting on a penalty shot in the final minutes of regulation to put Gene’s within one of tying.

The next match at Saratoga Polo is The Saratogian Cup, featuring John Walsh’s Shamrock team at 5:30pm on Friday, August 29th. For more information about Saratoga Polo, call (518) 584-8108 or visit saratogapolo.com.
