In conjunction with the Calgary Polo Clubs 120th Anniversary we hosted the 5th Annual Barbados Challenge Cup. The day started mildly gloomy with rain showers right up until the start of the first match game. The afternoon then took off with an 8 – 10 goal match game between the Blazers and Ivanhoe. The Blazers were victorious in the end winning by a score of 7 – 6. We then continued on to the main game between Barbados and Canada. The Canadian Team was represented by Daniel Roenisch (4), Julian Mannix (3), Anne Evamy (0) and Gordon Ross (-1). Going into half time it seemed that Barbados were going to take the game as Canada had yet to make it on the score board. Although coming back strong in the 3 chukker Canada scored 3 to jump ahead. Unfortunately it was all they could to do as Barbados came back in the 4th to be victorious by a 2 goal margin – winning 5 – 3.
There was a fabulous attendance of roughly a thousand people spread amongst the berms and the Ranch House for our Fundraiser. Following the game we hosted a cocktail party and Fundraiser in the Ranch House. Approximately $26,000 was raised through a live and silent auction in support of the Calgary Polo Club.
