Cadillac is the Presenting Sponsor for the third year running, Qatar Airways has signed a three-year team sponsorship and is the Official Airline Sponsor and long-term partner, Hills Advertising, is a team sponsor for the first year
The runaway success of the Beach Polo Cup Dubai presented by Cadillac – an event born and built in Dubai and made possible every year by the collaboration of dozens of expert local companies – has provided an enduring legacy for Dubai’s capacity to create and host world-class sporting events, according to His Excellency Saeed Hareb, Secretary General, Dubai Sports Council.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of this week’s Beach Polo Cup Dubai 2016, Hareb insisted the success of the event – a bespoke beach variation of polo created by mamemo productions in 2004, which is now played in 33 cities internationally – proves Dubai is now equally adept at developing and exporting its own world-class sporting products as it is at hosting global sporting events.
“Dubai has established an international reputation as a world-class sporting destination by hosting a year-round calendar of major international sporting events covering a wide number of team and individual sports,” said Hareb. “While these imports have proven crucial in putting Dubai on the global sporting map, home-grown events such as the Beach Polo Cup Dubai presented by Cadillac prove that we are just as capable of conceiving and delivering world-class events of our own.”
As in 2015, the 2016 edition of the Beach Polo Cup Dubai – taking place this Friday 1 and Saturday 2, April – will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman, Dubai Sports Council.
Sam Katiela, Managing & Creative Director of mamemo productions and founder & organiser of the Beach Polo Cup Dubai, reiterated that strategic government support is a crucial enabler for delivering world-class sporting events on home shores.
“Since 2004, the Beach Polo Cup Dubai has grown to be one of the most anticipated events in Dubai’s lifestyle and sporting calendar,” he said. “The event attracts both polo and sporting aficionados and a glamorous, social crowd to a two-day tournament played on the sands of this wonderful, ambitious Emirate. Thanks to the support of the Dubai Sports Council and the unwavering commitment and collaboration of dozens of Dubai-based companies and suppliers, we are hosting the largest-ever edition of the event this year – it is a crucial stepping stone as we aim to host the first international Beach Polo World Cup tournament to coincide with the city’s historic hosting of the Expo 2020 Dubai. This event is completely made in Dubai and proves that Dubai can create and deliver its own events.”
The press conference was also attended by polo players from the event’s four teams, Cadillac, Qatar Airways, Lindt and Hills Advertising, as well as Felix Weller, Managing Director, Cadillac Middle East, the presenting sponsor of the event.
“As an international brand with its Middle East base here in Dubai, Cadillac understands the impact the Beach Polo Cup Dubai has been making here over the years. It is considered world-class and unique just like us, which is why we’re proud to be associated with this event for the third year running,” said Weller.
